Waste Management updates Lyon County on Silver Springs transfer station; building expected early 2026

Waste Management representatives updated the Lyon County Board of County Commissioners on Nov. 6 about the Silver Springs transfer station project and related service changes.
WM contract manager Kim Fleming said WM has purchased the property at 2425 Almond Drive and has selected a contractor; the administrative design review was approved and the building-review submittal is in review. Fleming said the company anticipates substantial completion of the transfer building by March 2026 and final completion in April, subject to building-review timing.
Fleming described changes to bulky-item collection: the previous sticker program has been replaced by a call-in scheduling system that allows residents to schedule two bulk items annually at no charge; additional items may be scheduled for standard fees. Year-to-date, WM reported 566 bulk items collected under the call-in system and said it will continue outreach and coordination with Lyon County staff for cleanup and code-enforcement support.
Commissioners requested WM present to local advisory boards in Silver Springs and Stagecoach so nearby residents could get direct updates; WM agreed to attend.
