The Haverhill City Council on Oct. 21 approved revisions to the city’s early sign‑up bonus for private snow‑plowing and hauling contractors for the 2025–26 winter season.
City officials said the administration relies on private vendors to cover more than 260 miles of roadway across the city and that the early sign‑up bonus helps ensure an adequate pool of contractors. DPW Director Bob Ward said the city adjusted the early‑sign‑up window (moving the qualifying date back to Nov. 14) and raised the early‑sign‑up bonus by $2 per hour across categories: officials cited $5 per hour for smaller trucks and $7 per hour for larger trucks as the bonus increments. During the presentation councilors were provided competitive rate ranges; officials said the total hourly rates would remain competitive in the regional market.
The council approved the measure by roll call; the record shows two councilors abstained and the motion carried.
