Taunton commission orders removal of unpermitted structure at 265 Longmeadow; owner given until Dec. 8

At the Nov. 3 Taunton Conservation Commission meeting the owner of 265 Longmeadow, Alcina Amoram, attended after the commission presented a violation letter alleging placement of a Quonset-style structure within the 100-foot buffer to a bordering vegetated wetland (BVW). The owner said she was not aware the structure had been placed and said her husband has had medical issues; she also said a tenant installed the structure.

Commissioners reviewed prior related enforcement history at the site (a previously removed trailer). Multiple commissioners said the structure must be removed. One commissioner moved that the structure be removed before the Dec. 8 meeting and that staff be authorized to issue fines or take legal enforcement if the structure remains. Another commissioner signaled reluctance to fine the owner immediately given her family circumstances; commissioners ultimately provided a one-month compliance window and directed staff to revisit the matter at the Dec. 8 meeting. The commission also advised the owner that any effort to re-erect a structure would require building permits, planning-board review and a notice of intent filed with the conservation office.

Staff will follow up by certified letter and a site visit; if the structure remains on Dec. 8 the commission signaled it will consider formal enforcement and refer the matter to the law department.
