Taunton issuing authority approves Comcast cable license renewal, boosts capital funding and channel upgrades

The City of Taunton's cable issuing authority approved a renewal of Comcast's cable franchise and authorized execution of the agreement, Mayor Shawna O'Connell said during a public hearing. The approval sets an effective date of July 18, 2026.

The renewal largely continues the existing license's terms while increasing capital equipment and facilities funding and requiring upgrades for the city's three local cable channels. Attorney August, special counsel to the city, told commissioners, "It's a strong license," and said it preserves operating support for the high school studio, the government channel and public access while boosting capital funding paid quarterly.
