The Taunton Police & License committee approved multiple business operational‑hours renewals Monday and moved to monitor several locations with community noise complaints, while tabling one entertainment license that the police recommended against.
Detective Peter McDougall told the committee he could not recommend an entertainment‑license renewal for Entertainment 1 Stop Shop LLC (d/b/a Platinum City Gaming, 294 Winthrop St.) because the Liquor Commission previously adjusted the entertainment hours to match the liquor license and limited alcohol service to 1 a.m. “If we give him an entertainment license till 2, we'd be giving a license to violate his liquor license,” the detective said, citing the Liquor Commission action on Dec. 11, 2024.
Councilors agreed to table the entertainment license to the next available meeting (a Monday morning session was suggested) so the owner could appear and address the Liquor Commission’s written findings. The matter was tabled by unanimous voice vote.
On other items, the committee approved renewals and new operational hours with positive recommendation from the detective or subject to monitoring: • Broadway Quick & Clean Car Wash (175 Broadway) — approved; the detective reported two noise complaints and several directed patrols over the last 10 months and the committee asked the police to monitor and invite the owner in if complaints continue. • Easy Clean Laundry Center (multiple locations: 173 Broadway, 11 Tremont St., 89 Winthrop St.) — approved after detective review of call logs showed a small number of complaints and routine patrols. • Creative Fitness Solutions (225 Cape Highway), CVS Pharmacy, MPG/Garrett’s Family Market (231 Broadway) — renewals approved; committee discussed differences between on‑premise consumption and off‑premise liquor sales when considering hours.
The committee also approved routine livery and second‑hand licenses later in the full meeting, and Detective McDougall’s communications were entered into the record. Councilors asked for continued police monitoring at locations with recurring neighborhood complaints and said they would summon owners for additional review if problems persisted.
Votes at a glance (selected): • Entertainment 1 Stop Shop LLC (Platinum City Gaming), 294 Winthrop St. — Detective did not recommend; motion to table to next meeting approved. • Broadway Quick & Clean Car Wash, 175 Broadway — Renewal for 24/7 hours approved; police to monitor noise complaints. • Easy Clean Laundry Center locations (173 Broadway; 11 Tremont St.; 89 Winthrop St.) — Renewals approved; detective reported limited calls for service.
Councilors said they want more robust monitoring where residents report noise or safety concerns and plan to invite business owners back for follow‑up if complaints continue.
