Hebron adopts Animal Control Officer firearm carry and dispatch policy

The Hebron Board of Selectmen voted Nov. 6 to adopt a written Animal Control Officer (ACO) firearm carry and dispatch policy that staff said was drafted in consultation with the police department.
Town staff described the document as a formalization of practices the ACO and police had followed for over a decade. Selectmen cited situations — injured wildlife, suspected rabid animals and vehicle‑animal collisions — where an ACO may need to perform a humane dispatch for public safety and animal welfare.
The town manager and selectmen said the policy was reviewed by the police department (staff named an officer who contributed to drafting) and by CCM procedures resources; the board discussed possible additional training and whether the ACO should appear before the board for questions, but members generally supported adopting the policy.
A motion to adopt the policy was offered and passed on a recorded voice roll call with members responding "aye." The resolution language recorded in the meeting states: "Be it resolved that the Hebron Board of Selectmen adopt the animal control officer firearm carry and dispatch policy as presented."
