Neighbor urges full study of noise, light and air impacts as large campus expands near Shirley Road

During the public comment period, Rusty Towel of Abilene urged the council to require fuller analysis of sound, light and air pollution before approving further expansion of a nearby campus that he said began as a small demonstration project and has grown into a large construction site visible from his property on Shirley Road.

Towel described years living near the site, the change from a quiet neighborhood to higher traffic and construction noise, and said he supports city growth but not at the cost of livability. He requested open, clear communication from the city and developers and suggested the city require sound and air studies before approving additional development.

City staff did not respond to the request during the meeting other than to hear the public comment; no action was taken.
