Mayor James Penn Warren, mayor of the City of Cedar Park, read and presented a proclamation declaring November 2025 as National Native American Heritage Month and thanked local partners for helping arrange cultural events.
"...it is with great pride that we have our first proclamation recognizing National Native American Heritage Month," Mayor James Penn Warren said as he introduced the proclamation and recognized Scoutmaster Bill for his help in organizing youth programming.
Raven Price Smith, who identified herself as from the Mandan, Hidatsa and Arikara Nation, accepted the proclamation and invited residents to the large one‑day powwow at the Travis County Expo Center on Nov. 22. "It is the largest one‑day powwow in the country. And there was, last year, over 300 dancers, over 15,000 visitors. So please come join us that day," she said.
Nicole Welch, who said she is Chickasaw and Choctaw and represents the Chickasaw Community Council of Central Texas, thanked the council and described continuing partnership plans. She said the council and community can expect additional events and partnerships with the Native American Cultural Center.
Councilmembers and staff also announced a second annual Cedar Park Kids Pow Wow on Dec. 6 at the YMCA and said organizers are discussing a 2026 partnership with the new Cedar Park library for the 2027 kids powwow. "...we will have dancing and fun stuff for kids of all ages," a representative of the cultural center said.
The proclamation cites the 1990 federal establishment of Native American Heritage Month and names the Native American Cultural Center as a local partner in cultural arts education.
Organizers asked the public to follow event pages on social media; Raven Price Smith referenced Facebook, Instagram and TikTok for event information and accepted the mayor’s invitation to attend.
