Milwaukee County supervisors unanimously approved (via suspended rules) a feasibility study to examine assistance options for County Rehabilitation Center participants with facial tattoos, asking county medical and reentry staff to report back on possible programs and costs.
The Milwaukee County Board unanimously approved a motion Nov. 6, after suspending the rules, to request a feasibility study examining options for assisting County Rehabilitation Center (CRC) participants who have facial tattoos and face barriers to employment and housing.
Supervisor Wasserman, who introduced the item under suspension of the rules, said the motion removed direct funding and instead asked county departments, CRC providers and health partners to evaluate possible approaches and cost estimates. "All I'm calling for is a feasibility study to look at this issue with the CRC, with our medical providers to see what we can afford and what we can't afford," Supervisor Wasserman said.
Supervisors asked that the study consider medical, vocational and housing impacts and identify potential private or philanthropic partners. The board approved the motion after a roll-call vote; sponsors included Supervisors Vincent and Capriollo among others. The item does not appropriate funds; it directs staff to report back with findings and cost estimates to inform later action.
