Board approves abandonment of city rights-of-way to clear site for Legislative Council Bureau building

The Carson City Board of Supervisors voted unanimously to approve a request to abandon portions of East 6th Street between South Plaza and South Fall Street, a section of South Fall Street between East 7th and East 6th Street, and a 10‑foot alley that bisects a small parcel. Planning staff said the abandonment is necessary to allow the Legislative Council Bureau to construct a new office building, maintenance facility and parking garage at the site.
Planning staff reported that the Planning Commission found all seven required findings in the affirmative and recommended approval. Dirk O'Hareng, representing the applicant, told the board the project has utilities already being relocated and that the applicant hopes to break ground in December and have parking in place by the next legislative session.
Supervisor Horton moved to approve the abandonment as presented; the motion carried unanimously.
