Clovis approves up to $265,000 transfer for Clovis Aquatic Center plaster repairs and facility work

The Clovis City Commission approved a budget transfer of up to $265,000 from designated Fund 63 (recreation) to cover necessary repairs at the Clovis Aquatic Center, including removal of failing plaster and related interior repairs.
Parks and Recreation Director Russell Hooper explained that inspectors and staff observed multiple layers of flaking pool plaster that require removal back to the base coat and full re‑plastering. The contractor has scheduled a three- to four‑week project to remove old layers, haul away debris and apply new pool finishes. Staff also noted related lobby and shower repairs will be completed while the pool is out of service.
Hooper told commissioners that earlier bid activity for a zoo project resulted in underspending of about $120,000 from a previously requested $200,000, which reduces the new funding need; he said the ultimate additional request was about $145,000 but asked the commission to approve up to $265,000 as a ceiling. The department will coordinate scheduling to minimize disruption to swim teams and the public.
Commissioner Jones moved approval; Commissioner Paula seconded. The commission voted 8–0 in favor.
