Atherton introduces new associate engineer, Gabriela Ruiz

Public Works Director Robert Abadia introduced Gabriela Ruiz as Atherton's new associate engineer during the Nov. 5 special study session.
Abadia said Ruiz joined the public works team in September. He described her as a licensed civil engineer who earned her bachelor's degree from the University of California, Irvine, and who began her professional career as an intern with the city of Laguna Niguel. Abadia said Ruiz subsequently worked for private consulting firms on transportation'focused design projects, including streetscapes, roadways, active'transportation projects and traffic signals.
"She's got her feet wet learning more about municipal service and has taken on encroachment plan reviews and inspections, grading and drainage plan reviews, and has started winterization inspections for us in compliance with our NPDES permits," Abadia said.
Gabriela Ruiz, speaking briefly, said she was "happy to be here" and "excited to help."
Council members welcomed Ruiz and asked whether she would act as a liaison to the transportation department as the town moves forward with work around the town center.
