San Marcos council hears plan for Dunbar Neighborhood History Walk; staff seeks consensus to proceed

San Marcos City Council members on Nov. 5 heard a staff presentation on the proposed Dunbar Neighborhood History Walk and signaled informal support for staff to continue developing the project.

The Dunbar History Walk presentation was delivered at the Nov. 5 work session by Charlotte Watney, creative and marketing manager for Destination Services, and other city staff. “The Dunbar History Walk, is a visible way to recognize the intangible heritage and tell the story of the Dunbar neighborhood,” Watney said. Staff recommended concentrating physical markers along the sidewalk loop at Dunbar Park so the project can include non-physical places and serve as a destination for visitors.

Why it matters: the project is intended to document people, businesses, churches and organizations that long-time residents say shaped the neighborhood’s cultural life.…
