Jeremy Herrera, a former Murphy resident, told the Planning & Zoning Commission he would like to see a community library placed at 135 North Murphy Road, behind the hair salon and the Murphy Activity Center.
Herrera, who said he graduated from Texas Woman's University in 2023 with a master's degree in library science and now lives in Denton, described the proposal as a one‑story public library that would preserve existing trees where feasible. "I just thought it would be cool and innovative and just awesome to have a community or public library here in Murphy, Texas," he said.
Commission members responded favorably but did not take formal action. Chair Fee thanked Herrera for presenting and invited him to bring the proposal to City Council, saying, "You're never in the wrong meeting." Herrera offered to provide more research about library card access in neighboring cities and noted that Murphy residents face differing library-card rules in Wiley and Plano.
No votes or staff directions resulted from the public comment. Staff suggested Herrera could present his idea to the City Council at its next meeting if he wished.
