Dr. Rhodes presented the Wyndham Primary School State of the School on Nov. 5, outlining current programs, goals and challenges. The school now offers daily 4‑year-old programming, is in year two of BAR implementation, and has a continued focus on attendance and professional learning for staff. Dr. Rhodes noted more than half of literacy instructors have LETRS training and the school maintains a plan to expand that training so future hires receive the same preparation.
Program highlights included expanded YouTime lessons (part of BAR), cross-curricular YouTime activities in art, PE and music, and a revived Bigs-Littles program that will place about 20 high-school volunteers with small groups or individual students. Dr. Rhodes said the AmeriCorps family and student engagement coordinator has supported fall events and outreach, and cited coaching supports and instructional leaders as central to implementing targeted practices in phonemic awareness, number sense and writing.
Challenges cited were time for professional learning and sustained follow-up coaching; Dr. Rhodes said the district's coaches and instructional leaders are providing support but that staff scheduling and planning time remain constrained. The school also described work to analyze I-Ready assessment data across grade-level professional learning communities to target instruction.
Board members praised the school's culture and cited examples of successful cross-age interactions — including high-school volunteers positively affecting recess for some learners. The principal closed by highlighting school climate, classroom examples of Ideal Learning Experiences, and ongoing literacy work.
Ending: The board acknowledged the primary school's positive climate and work on literacy and BAR; Dr. Rhodes asked the board to consider resources and continued coaching support as the school implements the next phases of LETRS and BAR.
