The City of Woodbury declared Nov. 20 through Dec. 20, 2025, as Coins for Canines Month in recognition of a community fundraising effort that supports the Woodbury Police Department’s canine unit.
Officer Nick Wagner, a decoy and representative for the canine unit, thanked Donna Smith Stafford and the Woodbury Police Canine Fund for organizing donation boxes and other fundraising activities that pay for training and equipment. “This initiative … is a creative way to partner with businesses in order to raise much needed funds that help us keep our canine unit operating,” Wagner said.
A representative of the Canine Fund said approximately 40 local businesses planned to host donation boxes this year and that the fund will also distribute coasters with a QR code at some food and entertainment establishments to facilitate donations. The proclamation on file with the city recognizes the fund’s founding and its mission to purchase and train canines and buy equipment to support public safety staff.
Mayor Burt read the proclamation and thanked the fund and volunteers for the program and its legacy in honor of Bruce Stafford, a retired Woodbury firefighter mentioned in the proclamation language.
