Wilson County Road Commission approves surplus equipment transfers, hears superintendent report

The Wilson County Road Commission on Nov. 6 approved a surplus‑equipment list that includes two older dump trucks proposed for transfer to the county fairgrounds and heard its monthly superintendent report.

Superintendent Chase told the commission that the Charles Crossing and West Costin subdivisions "topped out" and had been turned over to maintenance, and that plans for the McQuery bridge project were nearing completion ahead of a preconstruction meeting. "That's the only thing that's changed on the list," Chase said, summarizing the month’s updates.

The surplus list presented to the commission included small items the staff identified as scrap (air guns and keyboards), a pickup truck, a 1994 backhoe and two dump trucks described in the record as model year 1987. The fairgrounds manager, Mr. Majors, asked if the fairgrounds could receive the two older dump trucks; commissioners moved, seconded and approved the surplus declaration and the proposed transfer to the fairgrounds by voice vote.

Commissioners also heard routine operations updates about paving and maintenance. One member reported 29.46 miles paved to date and noted crews paused some paving work because of cold weather and to replace a failing cross drain. Staff said they were conducting winter preparations and patchwork to leave roads in a serviceable condition.

On equipment disposal, staff explained that tires and other identified items are declared surplus before being taken to a disposal or recycling site. The commission confirmed the surplus list and approved the superintendent’s report by voice vote.

No ordinance, statute or funding source was cited during the surplus motion; the action was recorded as a standard county equipment surplus and transfer to another county entity (the fairgrounds).
