The Lebanon County Board of Commissioners approved a $5,000 hotel-tax grant to Quilters Destination, doing business as The Stencil Company, to help promote the Lancaster Lebanon Quilt Show at the Lebanon Valley Expo Center.
County staff said the applicant reported a total project cost of $144,260, with past events attracting more than 12,000 attendees and roughly 100 vendors from multiple states. The applicant identified 25 hotel rooms blocked for the event and said vendors and staff often use local short-term rentals in the area.
The applicant indicated it would reconfigure the grant request to emphasize advertising and local promotion; the presenter said the applicant plans to add local radio if the grant is approved. A commissioner suggested the board consider changing grant criteria in the future to encourage a minimum admission charge for large events to ensure the hotel-tax fund is not depleted by free events, but no immediate policy change was made.
The grant application was approved by motion.
Details provided in the packet indicate the grant will be used for event promotion; the county's hotel-tax grant fund will administratively handle reimbursement and reporting according to standard practice.
