The Sandy City Planning Commission unanimously approved a sign theme amendment for the Hale Center Theater site at 9886 South Monroe Street to accommodate signage for the new Mountain America Arts & Education (Beehive) addition.

Staff introduced the item and said the applicant, Allied Electric Sign and Awning, requested four signs on the building: an eyebrow sign on the east elevation using the Beehive logo, a marquee‑style sign with bulb lighting for the children's theater entrance, a directional 1x5 blade sign over the north parking exit, and an 18‑square‑foot illuminated routed acrylic sign above the rehearsal hall entry. The applicant clarified that the rehearsal hall sign is routed acrylic with lighting and not a vinyl wall graphic as noted in the draft staff report.

"It's meant to be a direction," the applicant said about the blade sign, describing how signs will guide patrons between the Hale Center lobby and the Beehive entrance.

No members of the public spoke on the item. Commissioner Jennifer George moved to approve the sign theme amendment as described in the staff report; the motion passed on a unanimous roll call.

The approval will allow the theater complex to install signage consistent with the new Beehive theater entrance and the school's outreach for children’s programming.
