A commission task group presented a draft flyer and program outline for the 2026 Martin Luther King Jr. event, scheduled for Monday, Jan. 19, 2026, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Wayne High School cafeteria.
The task group described the event as a paid, catered luncheon paired with a community dialogue: small-group discussions meant to include Huber Heights residents, city council members and students from elementary through high school who will give reflections. The group said it plans to solicit quotes from local vendors; one member named Mr. Owens as working to obtain vendor quotes.
Why it matters: organizers said the event is intended to foster discussion of disparities and possible local solutions while engaging youth and older residents. Finalizing a clear flyer and logistics is intended to help marketing and vendor commitments.
Commission members asked for specific editorial changes to the draft flyer. Requests included replacing the word “program” with a clearer phrase such as “community dialogue,” listing a “catered luncheon” under activities, simplifying the time to “11 a.m. to 2 p.m.,” and using the web address hh0h.org instead of a full “www” prefix. Members also suggested bolder, less ornamental fonts for smaller text and a punctuation change (a comma after “19”).
The group flagged a contingency: because the honored guest, former Vice Mayor Lucille Dale, lives in Cincinnati and weather in January can be unpredictable, organizers said they would record an interview with her as a backup if she could not attend in person. The task group expects to meet again in November to finalize the program and will report back to the commission at its next monthly meeting.
No formal vote was required for the flyer edits; the commission directed the task group and staff to proceed with vendor outreach and to return with a finalized flyer and program. The task group also asked commissioners to submit any additional changes directly to staff before distribution.
