Plan Commission approves Drexel Town Square sign redesign, requires easement relocation and recorded new easement

The Oak Creek Plan Commission on Oct. 28 approved an amendment to the sign plan for Drexel Town Square to replace the existing monument sign with a redesigned sign at Lot B1 (corner of Drexel Avenue and Main Street). Staff said the sign will move approximately 98 feet west from its current location to accommodate new commercial development.
Staff and the applicant representative said the existing base measures roughly 7 feet by 3 feet by 3 feet and the proposed base will be about 10 feet by 3 feet by 3 feet while retaining an electronic message board and Drexel Town Square branding. The Drexel Town Square owners association reviewed and approved the proposed design, staff said.
The commission’s motion required that all relevant code requirements remain in effect, that the existing easement for the sign’s current location be vacated and that a new easement for the new sign location be recorded. The commission approved the amendment with the standard condition that the approval will expire in 12 months if a sign permit is not issued. Commissioners expressed general support, noting the larger message area and potential to accommodate businesses on the plaza.
