Marilyn, representing Keep Flower Mound Beautiful, told the Parks Board on Nov. 6 that volunteers contributed roughly 4,700 hours this year and collected about 1,493 bags of trash and 332 bags of recyclables through third-Saturday cleanups, adopt-a-spot work and townwide Eco Action Days.
Marilyn described program highlights: third-Saturday two-hour cleanups across parks and trails, joint cleanups with Grapevine, a community-service program used by honor students, and specialty collection events (shredding, e-waste, clothing, small batteries and eyeglasses). She said the organization recorded 8,998 pounds of electronic waste in the spring collection and 5,725 pounds in the fall, and that Republic Services had covered disposal costs previously but the group has since identified a vendor that pays for some collected materials.
Marilyn also announced that Flower Mound won the Keep Texas Beautiful governor’s community achievement award in its population category (65,001–90,000). She said the award provides TxDOT-managed assistance valued at about $270,000 for a town project; TxDOT would perform much of the work up to the award amount. "So don't look for it to happen really quickly," she told the board, noting municipal coordination would be required if the council accepts the award.
She walked through outreach and volunteer-recognition activities — including a T-shirt design contest and an annual volunteer recognition event — and recapped the lending-hand program that completes small home repairs, yard work and tree removals for residents in need. Marilyn provided a list of near-term projects that remain on the group's to-do list, such as creek cleanup work, tree removals at Macomb Cemetery and fence repairs for a resident.
Board members thanked Keep Flower Mound Beautiful and congratulated Marilyn on 20 years of service; staff noted the group’s programs complement town environmental and recycling services.
