The Flower Mound Youth Sports Association reported to the Parks Board on Nov. 6 that its registration has remained consistent at roughly 1,200–1,400 players and that it serves 162 Miracle League participants who travel to play at Bakersfield Field 11.
The presentation, delivered by Tracy Black, general manager, and Jeff Nelson, association president, outlined annual programming, coach training and safety measures and asked the town to prioritize additional playable fields and field lighting. "All of our coaches, any parent that steps on the field as a coach, an assistant coach, practice is 100% background check through USA Baseball," Black said, describing a multi-course certification the association requires of volunteers.
The association highlighted continuing partnerships with Flower Mound High School coaches and nearby municipalities and praised operational improvements at Bakersfield after the installation of new LED lights. "The lights at Bakersfield have been a game changer," Nelson said, noting that the upgrade reduced light intrusion on neighboring houses and allowed later-evening schedules. He asked the board to consider similar fixtures at Hilltop, which he said would effectively add five fields to the program’s usable inventory.
Nelson said the organization runs several divisions — rec, premier and select programs — and that it feeds local high school teams. He also described difficulties getting games scheduled early in the evening because of limited fields, resulting in some games ending as late as 9:15–9:30 p.m. The group said that field availability, rather than demand, is the main limiting factor on scheduling.
Board members thanked presenters and noted staff are aware of ongoing turf- and lighting-related capital work. The presentation closed with a request to promote an upcoming FMYSA toy-drive event on Nov. 15; the group asked Parks staff to share the flyer on town social media.
The remarks were informational; no board action was taken at the meeting.
