Goodhue County’s Board of Commissioners on Nov. 4 approved a $30,000 grant from the county Housing Trust Fund to Goodhue County Habitat for Humanity for a rural home rehabilitation program administered through Semtra (consultant representation at the meeting).
Buffy Beranek, consulting for Semtra, said the funding was earmarked by the Housing Trust Fund Subcommittee about three years ago. The program is modeled on an existing Red Wing program and targets households with incomes at or below 80% of area median income, using a tiered payback structure so some dollars revolve back into the fund for future projects. Bob Holly, executive director of Goodhue County Habitat for Humanity, described the program’s focus on critical repairs and aging‑in‑place work (roofing, doors, ramps, walk‑in showers) and said applicants will be reviewed for eligibility and sign a memorandum of understanding that sets payback terms.
The board moved and seconded to approve the grant as presented; the motion passed by voice vote.
