Several commissioners said they did not want to give the public the impression the city would surrender the community center without a guaranteed replacement for resident meeting space and programming. Other commissioners said issuing notice could surface high-quality proposals and that RFP language could require a community-center component or public-access provisions as part of any deal. Commissioners agreed to meet with Dr. Levy, the city's consultant, at a scheduled session on Dec. 12 to refine goals and language, and they directed staff to return with a revised RFP and timetable after that meeting.
No final disposition or sale was authorized; the commission's direction was procedural: hold off on issuing an RFP until the commission reviews consultant recommendations and refines project requirements.
