Mayor Ron Anders used the Nov. 4 mayor’s minutes to name Michelle Altman as employee of the month, to recognize staff service anniversaries and to highlight recent community events.
Anders read a memorandum from Katrina Cook naming Altman for her work promoting responsible pet ownership, enforcing city ordinances, and providing court testimony. He recognized Sean Amason, Joshua Evans and Trent Posey from the fire department, Brian Owens from Inspection Services and Steven Krantz from the office of the city manager for five years of service, and said Monterey Smith of Environmental Services will retire after 25 years.
Anders also congratulated the newly sworn Opelika mayor Eddie Smith and thanked outgoing Opelika Mayor Gary Fuller for 21 years of service. He thanked downtown merchants for participating in a downtown trick‑or‑treat, Auburn University students who joined an Alzheimer’s walk and the Heritage Association for the Pine Hill Cemetery tour.
