Planning board adopts 2026 meeting schedule, staff to release comprehensive plan public‑review draft

The New Hanover County Planning Board on Nov. 6 voted to adopt its 2026 agenda review and regular meeting schedule, changing the regular meeting start time from 6:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Planning staff member Rebecca said the time change is intended to allow staff to identify filing deadlines and to post the schedule to the county website. A motion to adopt the 2026 calendar with the noted time change was moved by Flora, seconded by Pete, and approved by voice vote.
Rebecca also told the board that the public review draft of the comprehensive plan update will be released later in the month. She said a text amendment to the Unified Development Ordinance will be prepared to align code references with the updated plan, and staff anticipates a public hearing on the plan and accompanying UDO text amendment at the January meeting.
The chair noted this meeting was the final meeting for planning board member Mr. Matthews, who resigned. Board members thanked Matthews for his service.
The board adjourned at the close of business.
