Gardner mayor outlines Veterans Day ceremony, holiday events, and resident service reminders

Mayor, the mayor of Gardner City, opened the recorded update by reminding residents that Veterans Day is Tuesday, Nov. 11, and that the annual Veterans Day ceremony will begin at 11 a.m. in Perry Auditorium at Gardner City Hall, 95 Pleasant Street. “At 11AM on November 11, there will be our annual Veterans Day, ceremony over at Perry Auditorium at Gardner City Hall at 95 Pleasant Street,” the mayor said, adding that the march‑in of veterans takes place a few minutes before the ceremony and urging attendees to arrive early. The mayor also noted City Hall will be closed for the federal holiday.

The mayor outlined a series of community and holiday events: a Thanksgiving farmers market in Perry Auditorium on Saturday, Nov. 22, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. (vendor spots are still available through the Gardner Farmers Market Committee); the Gardner Museum’s 20th annual Festival of Trees running Nov. 12–Dec. 7 with specified hours and cash‑only raffle tickets; Theatre at the Mount’s production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat with performances on Nov. 30 and Dec. 5–7 and a sensory‑friendly show on Dec. 6; the Memorial Lights Drive (donation forms at the Mayor’s Office and John's Sport Shop); Small Business Saturday on Nov. 29 (9 a.m.–6 p.m.) and Small Brewer Sunday on Nov. 30; the holiday stroll and tree lighting on Nov. 30 beginning at 4 p.m. at City Hall and ending at Monument Park with participation from the Gardner Middle School Select Choir, Holy Family Academy and Boy Scouts Troop 4; Handel’s Messiah by the Greater Gardner Community Choir on Dec. 14 at 3 p.m. in Perry Auditorium; and horse‑drawn carriage rides on Monday, Dec. 22.

The mayor also reminded residents of two service notices: a second yard‑waste collection in November will occur the week of the announced November collection on residents’ normal trash day, and a hazardous‑waste collection with shredding will be held Saturday, Nov. 15, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Gardner Landfill, 744 West Street. “Registration is not required, but proof of residency in Gardner is required. And shredding will also be available at the event,” the mayor said and directed residents to the city website and the health department (978‑630‑4013) for details.

Separately, the mayor said the city and school department websites were refreshed and are now ADA compliant and thanked staff who worked on the update. He noted the city is in grant season and that a later, end‑of‑month update will contain additional grant information.
