The Rye City School District Board of Education approved its consent agenda at the Nov. 4 meeting by voice vote, 6 in favor, 0 opposed, with one absence. The motion to approve the consent agenda was made by Sean Clapfer and seconded by Jen Boyle.
The board approved several items listed on the consent agenda: a contract with Sandbox Theater to support Osborne School's fifth-grade play (paid for by the Osborne PTO via a previously accepted donation); a facilities rental agreement with Lifetime Fitness for girls' squash tryouts and practices (not to exceed $2,500); a gift from the Midland PTO totaling $8,550 to support cultural arts programs, field trips and teacher grants; and the hiring of Fiona Youngs as an English teacher at Rye Middle School to replace Dr. Washington, who was appointed to a teacher-on-special-assignment role.
Board members also announced an increase to the district's substitute-teacher pay to remain competitive with neighboring districts, a change the board said is intended to improve substitute staffing levels.
The clerk read the consent details aloud before the vote. No board member registered questions at the time the items were moved for approval.
