The finance and facilities committee on Nov. 7 approved the district's proposed budget calendar and authorized staff to advertise the initial public hearing to coincide with the full school board meeting scheduled in early December.
Staff explained that state code requires at least seven days' notice for a school-system budget hearing and that moving the hearing to the December meeting would provide additional time to compile departmental requests and solicit board-member priorities. The committee discussed timeline options for receiving board-member budget requests and suggested routing initial input through the finance and facilities committee before presenting consolidated recommendations to the full board.
A staff presenter said principals and directors have begun submitting departmental requests and that a formal request for board-member budget priorities will be circulated; committee members asked that the CFO include board requests in the compiled budget packet.
The committee made and seconded a motion to approve the budget calendar and to advertise the hearing; the motion carried.
