The City Commission accepted $750,000 in state appropriations and approved related resolutions on Nov. 5 to support the city's multigenerational recreation center.
The commission accepted a $500,000 award from the Florida Department of Commerce (General Appropriations Act agreement HL309) for continued work on the center, and a separate $250,000 GAA award (HL305) for strength-training equipment and furnishings. Both grants were accepted by resolution and the manager was authorized to execute the grant agreements.
City staff said the exercise equipment shipment arrived at the recreation center site the same day, and work to assemble and install the equipment will begin in the coming days. The manager and commissioners credited state representatives for securing funds and said the awards are significant in delivering the finished facility to residents.
The commission also approved a related budget amendment to record grant revenues and project spending across affected funds. Finance staff said the amendment brings the city's budget into alignment with grants awarded during the fiscal year and is part of the city's effort to improve financial transparency.
Commissioners voted in favor of the resolutions without recorded dissent.
