The Shelbyville employee benefits review committee recommended Nov. 6 that the city switch its health-insurance coverage to a plan offered through TML Insurance.
"The recommendation from the committee is to go with the TML insurance health insurance," a committee representative said during the study session. Staff and council members who served on the committee described multiple vendor presentations and said the TML plan offers improved coverage and deductibles compared with the current program.
Council members discussed options for directing some of the anticipated savings back to employees, such as subsidizing family coverage or another employee benefit. Staff said specifics on how to return value to employees would be discussed at the next council meeting. The transcript does not record a formal council vote to change providers during the study session.
