Mayor updates residents on community programs, events and services

Mayor Klein used her report to congratulate newly elected and returning council members and to give multiple community updates. She reminded residents to sign up for CodeRED notifications, announced an Internet safety night for parents and children on Thursday, Nov. 13 at 6:30 p.m. at Orange Village Hall, and noted county pumpkin-collection locations through Nov. 10.
Klein also announced that Deputy Chief O'Callaghan has retired from the Orange Village Police Department and described progress on the dog park construction, noting the service department's work and county grant support. She said the village is finalizing paperwork to close on land purchased from the Cuyahoga County Land Bank. Klein said she received architect proposals for village hall and the fire station and will bring recommendations to council next week.
The mayor summarized intergovernmental work including a memorandum of understanding under review for the First Calls program with neighboring municipalities and an MOU on a Beechwood boundary relocation. She invited council members to observe a joint vehicle extrication drill behind the service garage on Pike Road.
Council members also discussed community food-donation efforts. Members advised that donations can be dropped at a temporary box in village hall for November but recommended residents take contributions directly to the Garfield Church pantry, which the council said already maintains an established system. Council asked staff to publicize Garfield's contact information and hours on the village website.
Other announcements included holiday events: an Arts Center mural delivery, an indoor artisan market on Dec. 6 and a new Light Up Orange event planned for Dec. 10. Council members thanked police, fire and service departments for trunk-or-treat and other community efforts.
