The Western Placer Unified School District board on Nov. 4 approved its consent agenda and voted unanimously to continue a voluntary summer-pay savings program for classified employees.
District staff said the program allows 10- and 11-month classified employees to have a portion of each paycheck deposited into a separate account and receive a lump-sum payment in the summer. Staff reported roughly 110 participants so far and said the state match this year is currently estimated at about $0.56 on the dollar rather than a full dollar.
"In a perfect world, they could actually get a 10% boost to their paycheck," a staff presenter said, describing the plan’s potential benefit to employees who lack year-round pay. The program was described as optional and targeted at classified employees who do not receive a regular 12-month paycheck.
Trustees approved the consent agenda and the program in separate roll-call votes; minutes record both actions as unanimous (5–0). The board also reviewed an informational first read of a mutual-sunshine communication plan related to bargaining with the Western Placer Teachers Association; that item was presented for information and will return for future consideration.
The approvals leave the district to continue outreach to eligible staff members and to finalize administrative steps so checks reflecting employee contributions and the state match are disbursed in the summer following participation.
