The Napoleon City Council directed the law director to prepare legislation to acquire land and a temporary easement needed for a Maumee River waterline crossing.
"We have an agreed to purchase amount for the property as well as for crop damage as well as a temporary easement and also for his legal costs," Chad, the public works director, told the council. "The negotiated price for that property is $28,000." He described the permanent parcel as a little over 1.25 acres and a temporary easement of roughly 1 acre. The parcel runs from County Road Z to the riverbank and measures about 25 feet by approximately 2,000 feet, he said.
Chad said county planning commission approval has been received and that the draft legislation would allow staff to complete the purchase with the Shoemaker family. Council voted by roll call to direct the law director to draft the purchase and easement documents so the item can return to council for formal adoption.
The council recorded no further budgetary appropriation at this meeting; the motion directed staff to prepare the ordinance and supporting documents for consideration at a future meeting.
