Nominees included John Dean (Sutherland High School), recognized for serving as a school mascot at a welcome-back picnic; Spriha DeKal (Mendon Center Elementary) and Aaliyah Engel (Allen Creek Elementary) for inclusive leadership and engagement; Lorenzo Geminani Vega (Mendon High School) for work in Unified Sports and Best Buddies; Jordan Narvaez (Barker Road Middle School) for everyday empathy; Ayla Pritchard (Thornell Road Elementary) for student-council leadership; Ben Sheehan (Calkins Road Middle School) for community service and character; Gurbaj (Gurbhaj) Singh (Park Road Elementary) for citizenship and helpfulness; and Owen Wietenot (Jeff Road Elementary) for consistent positive engagement.
Superintendent Mike Pero noted the award recognizes roughly 27 students district-wide each year against an enrollment of about 6,000 and called the evening one of the "top three days of the year" for the district. The board concluded the recognition with plaques and photographs of the recipients behind the dais.
Ending: The board took a group photograph and attendees applauded the honored students. The nominations were laminated and given to recipients to keep at home.
