Cheltenham SD staff summarize districtwide repairs: roofing, waterproofing, kitchen equipment, sewer and drainage work

At the facilities meeting, Mr. Swider, a facilities staff member, provided an overview of districtwide maintenance and repair work.

He reported targeted ADA parking and safety repainting across several buildings. At the administration building, crews performed brick waterproofing where water was infiltrating behind the brick near the auditorium; roofers also repaired seven areas of the roof where slate or seams required attention. Using food-service reserve funds previously approved by the district, the high school had a new steamer and convection oven installed and a previously leaky kitchen freezer repaired.

Swider said crews replaced a cracked terracotta sewer pipe at the high school, adding a cleanout to reduce the need for future major repairs. He also described a refreshed paint job in the high-school main lobby.

At Cedarbrook, a large tree fell onto the track inside the fence. Swider said the tree had to be removed because it was unstable due to underlying substantial rocks. He also replied to committee questions about a drain that had been backing up: the site was scoped, debris was removed from the pipe, and the recent heavy rain produced no backup.

Winco Elementary is scheduled for concrete repairs to fix deteriorating asphalt behind the basketball court and to level a pathway that poses a safety hazard for children; orange barriers are in place during prep work. Swider also said a new steam table was installed at Glenside Elementary and that similar kitchen installations occurred at other sites.

On Sierra River Middle School, Swider said the district's new civil engineer believes earlier work used undersized piping and fixtures. The current project scope will include correcting volume miscalculations identified by the engineer.
