Mineola building official reports rising permit activity; village issues seasonal sanitation and park updates

The Village of Mineola’s building official reported increased construction activity in October and issued seasonal reminders for residents, while trustees announced community events and park improvements.

During his report the building department official said the department issued 99 permits and conducted 90 inspections in October, a trend the department described as an ongoing steady pace of construction and renovation throughout the village. The official asked property owners to service or replace boilers before winter and noted electrician license renewals begin Dec. 1; renewal notices will be sent to licensed electricians in advance.

Officials discussed leaf season and sanitation: residents were asked not to place loose leaves and debris in the street where they can wash into catch basins and cause localized flooding, especially after heavy rain. The board praised the Department of Public Works for catch-basin cleaning and jet-vac work and reminded residents that Village Hall will be closed for Veterans Day, with an alternate sanitation schedule during holidays.

A brief Veterans Day ceremony was announced for Tuesday, Nov. 11 at 11 a.m. in Memorial Park. The board also described ongoing improvements at Wilson Park — lighting and walkways, two new bocce ball courts and other upgrades — and said the project is being paid in part by a state grant described during the meeting as leftover funds from a previous state senator.
