The Village of Mineola Board of Trustees on an otherwise routine agenda approved a package of consent items, personnel actions and engineering contracts, including a $47,000 amendment to finish one block of Garfield Avenue from Mineola Boulevard to Willis Avenue.
At the start of the public meeting the board voted to approve bills and payroll and the minutes of Oct. 8, Oct. 15 and Oct. 22, 2025. The board also resolved to designate Wednesday, March 18, 2026, as village election day when the usual date falls on St. Patrick’s Day.
Trustees approved use permits for community events and groups: Boy Scout Troop 45 may use the Wilson Park parking lot on Union Street for delivery and distribution of Christmas wreaths on Nov. 22, 2025, and the Mineola Golden Age Club was approved to use the Village Hall Community Center on Thursdays from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., Jan. 8 through June 11, 2026, subject to availability.
The board confirmed the Mineola Fire Department’s recommended membership candidate, Sean McKenna, Company 3, and authorized service-award payments: a monthly service-award payment to volunteer firefighter John Carroll Jr., effective Jan. 1, 2026, in the amount of $380 per month; and a lump-sum payout to volunteer firefighter Harry Veil, effective Jan. 1, 2026 (lump-sum amount not specified in the meeting).
Several contract and engineering authorizations were approved. The board authorized contracting with Lewis Barbado Landscaping Inc. for the 2025 tree-planting program using the Town of North Hempstead piggyback contract TNH300-2023; funding was identified as the 2025–26 general fund or general fund reserve balance. The board also authorized D and B Engineering and Architects DPC for engineering services to repair a damaged sanitation garage wall at an estimated cost of $27,000, funded from the 2025–26 general fund or reserve balance.
Trustees approved an engineering review and evaluation of water and sewer availability for 199 Jericho Turnpike, with funding to come from the developer’s fund. Finally, the board approved an amendment to the 2025 roadway improvements engineering services with D and B to add roads and specifically to finish Garfield Avenue from Mineola Boulevard to Willis Avenue at a cost of $47,000; funding was identified as the 2025–26 general fund or reserve balance.
