A parent and community member told the DeSoto County School District board on Nov. 6 that recent incidents on district buses raised concerns about student safety and staff adherence to safety protocols.
The speaker, who identified herself as a concerned parent, said: "Parents and guardians deserve transparency about how these incidents are handled, and we need clear communication and accountability from staff and administration." She requested the board review transportation policies, ensure staff are trained, and hold employees accountable for safety procedures.
The commenter said that if cameras on buses are not functional or incidents continue, parents should consider alternative transportation. "Every child deserves to ride to and from school knowing that they are safe and protected," the speaker said. The board acknowledged the comment during public comment; no formal policy vote on transportation was recorded at the Nov. 6 meeting.
