The DeSoto County School District board approved multiple bids and emergency repairs Nov. 6, including architectural services for a preschool playground, HVAC renovations at Hope Sullivan Elementary and an emergency storm-repair contract for Wallis Elementary.
The DeSoto County School District board on Nov. 6 approved a series of contracting and procurement actions covering architectural services, HVAC work, cafeteria interiors, janitorial supplies, vehicles and an emergency storm-repair purchase.
Administration recommended a contract with Allen and Hochul for architectural services for the Horn Lake High School preschool playground; the board approved entering into the agreement. The board also approved awarding the AC retrofit project (reverse auction conducted Oct. 24) to Waters International (lowest/best bid) for transportation-related HVAC work.
For cafeteria remodeling the board accepted the lowest and best bid from Interior Elements for the cafeteria decor package rebid at Lewisburg High School. The board approved JC Hartfield/JC Parks Field Company for HVAC renovation at Hope Sullivan Elementary. Districtwide janitorial-cleaning and paper-supply contracts were awarded by line item to American Paper and Twine, Brady Industries and Panola Paper Company following a reverse auction Oct. 27.
The board approved an emergency purchase with Blue Sky Restoration to repair storm damage and remove debris at Wallis Elementary. Administration reported the emergency purchase exceeded $50,000 and documented repairs were needed immediately to allow the school to open safely the following day; the board approved the emergency purchase.
The board approved voice requests to pay vendors at multiple schools where services were rendered before purchase orders were issued, citing staff changes and process delays and noting steps had been implemented to prevent recurrence. The board also approved the purchase of two non-bus vehicles under state contract to be paid from the district maintenance fund; the purchase requires subsequent approval from the Mississippi Department of Education.
Board approvals were made by voice votes in each case; motions were recommended by administration and followed by typical board seconding and "all in favor" voice votes in the meeting record. The transcript does not record the names of makers or seconders for every motion nor detailed vote tallies beyond unanimous "Aye" responses recorded at the mic.
