At the start of the Hamblen County Commission’s Nov. 5 special-called meeting, Gwendolyn Holden of 8150 West Point Drive told commissioners she had filed suit against the county’s road department and criticized the county for not pursuing recovery itself.
"It should have been your all's responsibility to do that," Holden said. She told the commission she had recovered some money that she said the county had not reclaimed and said county employees must be held accountable: "It's your job to make sure that these county employees are honest and doing their job like they're supposed to, not a citizen."
Holden said she did not lie and asked commissioners to investigate future allegations more thoroughly so that citizens would not have to pursue recoveries themselves. The commission did not take formal action during the public-comment period; the chair closed comments and moved on to the docketed agenda item.
