The Planning Commission approved a street-name designation on May 25 to name the Cherry Lane extension segment west of Interstate 840 "Stones Battle Parkway." Staff explained the name change is intended to avoid having a disconnected segment of Cherry Lane several miles from the existing Cherry Lane while allowing the Masonbrook subdivision to record its final plat.
"There will be a segment... that will be disconnected from the rest of the roadway for an indeterminate period of time, minimum eight to ten years," Matthew Blomley said. Blomley said the commission has final authority on street names within city limits and that the proposed Stones Battle Parkway name had been run through 9-1-1 and reviewed by council members.
Commissioners voted to approve the name subject to the typical staff conditions; the change allows the Masonbrook developer to include the street name on its final plat filings.
