Planning commissioners approved a temporary overflow queuing and parking plan for the new Murfreesboro In-N-Out Burger location, allowing use of two nearby lots for staging, overflow queuing and temporary parking for up to 120 days, with a director-authorized 60-day extension available.
Mark Barbee, representing the applicant, said the temporary lots — one within the Clary Park development and a second in the North Church commercial subdivision — are intended to remove queuing vehicles from public streets and nearby properties when the new restaurant opens to a high-demand customer base. The diagrams presented show maximum-capacity configurations for staging and parking; Barbee said the lots would be temporary, removed after use, and restored.
Commissioners asked about operational control and timing; staff said the planning director may grant a single 60-day extension beyond the initial 120-day term. The commission voted to approve the temporary use subject to staff comments.
Barbee said lot layout is flexible so In-N-Out staff can adjust traffic control to prioritize queuing or rolling parking. The approval includes typical site-plan and permit requirements and the city will require restoration of the lots after the temporary period expires.
