Camden County election supervisor reports 13.5% turnout and 95% absentee return for Nov. 4 special election

Shannon Nettles, the Camden County election supervisor, told the board that the Nov. 4, 2025 special election drew 5,297 voters — about a 13.5% turnout — with 2,376 advanced in-person voters and 2,841 election-day voters.

“We sent out 82 absentee ballots, and we had 78 that were returned. So a 95% return rate,” Nettles said, thanking staff who made extra phone calls to encourage return of absentee ballots. She credited Leona for contacting absentee voters to confirm return plans and noted staff will present more complete numbers at certification.

Nettles and elections staff also provided precinct-level turnout context: East Kingsland recorded the most voters by raw count on election day, and West Saint Mary’s had the highest election-day turnout percentage (reported at over 22% in that precinct). Staff cautioned that raw vote counts do not tell the full story without considering precinct size and registered-voter totals.

Nettles said the office will continue elector-list maintenance in coming weeks and months to address registrations tied to post office boxes or commercial properties. She reiterated that qualifying for local offices in the 2026 election cycle will open in March 2026; the board of county commissioners seats for Districts 2 and 4 and the board of education Districts 2 and 4 are among the local contests that will qualify in March, with primaries in May and the general election in November 2026.
