City staff told the Economic Development Advisory Board that the shared‑micromobility operator Spin currently operates 104 scooters in Fort Myers and has requested permission to expand to roughly 200 devices and broaden its service area. Staff said no incidents have been officially reported to the Fort Myers Police Department from the current fleet, but council members and board members expressed concerns about riders crossing busy corridors and parking and asked staff to clarify geofencing and parking corral plans.
Staff said Spin has geofenced parking areas downtown and that operations teams reposition and collect vehicles regularly. The board asked staff to seek clarifications on operating parameters, whether Spin intends to expand into residential corridors such as Dunbar and Midtown and whether the company will add more seated scooters for older riders during the high season. The board expects staff will consult the city manager and, if necessary, bring an expansion proposal to a workshop.
