City staff said the combined funding brings the Freddie White lighting project to about $46,000, and that work is nearly complete with lights expected to be installed within one to two weeks; staff said an official ribbon cutting will be scheduled.
Why it matters: the retrofit will convert athletic lights to LED technology, a frequent objective to reduce energy use, improve field usability and lower maintenance. Friends of Imperial Parks explained the donation and called for community support of programming and events that could use the upgraded lighting.
What’s next: the project should be complete within weeks and staff intends to schedule an official opening/‘flip the switch’ event to showcase the upgraded field.
