City staff and volunteers used the council meeting to recap recent community events and recognize volunteer and sponsor support.
Director of Parks and Recreation Gus Hernandez summarized the Relay For Life event, which city staff and volunteers said featured more than 100 people at a survivor brunch, community activities and a fireworks presentation; Cindy Jarvis (Relay leadership committee) said the event raised funds and honored survivors and volunteers and highlighted that since 2003 the city’s Relay for Life efforts have raised $2.9 million for the American Cancer Society.
Library Services Manager Deborah Ria recognized Mark Scoggins and his team for the Lantern Tours at Heritage Park, describing the program’s growth from a small candlelit walk to an event that drew more than 900 attendees and noting that Lantern Tours will mark its tenth anniversary in 2026. Ria and staff presented certificates to Scoggins, Scott Hudson and Ryan Zapulveda.
Gus Hernandez also recognized a long list of sponsors who supported the recent State of the City program, listing platinum, gold, silver and bronze sponsors and inviting representatives to accept certificates and photographs.
Council members and staff praised volunteers and sponsors for their role in supporting community programs. No formal action was tied to the recognitions; certificates and photos were part of the meeting’s presentations.
