Public works staff told the board Thursday that crews have completed valve replacements and continue service connections in Bellevue North, Washington Street and Campbell Street, and plan to shift focus to Mulberry Avenue with milling and further repairs once current connections are complete.
During the department update staff described a pickup truck in poor condition that would cost roughly $10,000 to repair. One outside dealer reportedly offered $8,000 for the truck as‑is and about $5,000 if stripped of the bed and emergency equipment. Board members discussed salvaging radios and lights and recommended selling the failing unit stripped and moving forward with a state‑contract purchase of a replacement. Finance staff indicated the proposed replacement ($44,000 state bid plus about $3,500 for bed, decals and radio installation) is included in a draft budget amendment to be considered at the upcoming regular meeting.
Public works also reported that impounded, non‑city vehicles sold on GovDeals generated $730.75 for the city and that the department’s new FuelMaster fuel‑management system is operational though staff are resolving a gate communication bug.
Next steps: the board agreed to bring the truck purchase and related budget amendment to the regular council meeting for approval and directed staff to prepare sale/salvage steps for the failing pickup.
