Bond-funded projects near milestones; district outlines safety testing and construction timelines

Martinez said work at La Porte High School is advancing: turf for the new courtyard has arrived, the gravel base is being prepared and the steel package has been released so building envelope and steel erection will begin soon. "We're almost there to where you're gonna start seeing some excitement happening at the high school," Martinez said.
He said the construction will change pedestrian traffic patterns near the cafeteria and a new canopy will serve as the primary pathway; the district expects that phase to be complete by August next year. Martinez also described a planned golf-simulator lab: conduit and data drops have been run, projectors and PCs will be installed, and the vendor-provided kit (Unicore/Unicor) will be assembled by maintenance and technology staff. Martinez said the district expects the simulator room project to complete by December.
Lomax Junior High is progressing with gym finishes and roofing; the gym floor is being acclimated and orchestra/band spaces are in finish stages with expected completion in spring. Martinez said the Syntegix intruder/beacon systems are being tested campus-by-campus and that the district will perform a city-partnered shelter-in-place drill on Thursday the 16th at 08:30 a.m.; an after-action review will follow.
Trustees discussed data/device interactions with Syntegix and some implementation details (for example, Syntegix does not operate on student devices used as projectors). The intruder detection audit was presented later in the agenda as informational; no board action was requested.
The board received the updates for information; construction and safety projects will return as needed when funding, contracts or timelines require formal board action.
